THE GREATEST GALLANTRY: THE NEWFOUNDLAND REGIMENT AT MONCHY-LE-PREUX, APRIL 14, 1917
This is a new book on the great attack at Monchy le Preux in 1917 during the Battle of Arras. It was at Monchy le Preux where the Newfoundland Regiment and the Essex Regiment attacked side by side and, for the second time in less than a year, encountered heavy losses. As it was on July 1, 1916 these Regiments were again asked to do the impossible, attack without proper support or preparations. The results were the same as on the Somme in 1916. It also tells the great story of the ten gallant men who kept the enemy at bay for 11 hours and prevented Monchy le Preux from falling into German hands. By doing so they saved the British Line near Arras from a complete collapse.
